Radon is a school-day exposure, too
Radon can enter any building that touches the ground. Students and staff spend much of their week in the same classrooms, so the gas that concerns homeowners deserves attention in schools.
You can't see or smell it
Testing is the only way to know a building's radon level, and levels can differ from room to room and building to building.
It's a real health risk
Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among people who don't smoke. Long-term exposure is what matters, which is why where people spend their days counts.
Knowing is the first step
A documented test gives districts and school leaders facts for planning, budgeting, and communicating with staff and families.
What is radon?
Radon is a radioactive gas produced by the natural decay of uranium found in nearly all soils. It moves up through the ground into the air above — and into buildings through cracks and openings in the foundation.
Any building can have a radon problem: new or old, sealed or drafty, with or without a basement.
A testing partner with no stake in the outcome
I test, and that's all I do. I don't install or sell radon mitigation systems, so my results are never influenced by the possibility of a repair contract. For a school board or business office, that independence makes results easier to trust and to defend.
Independent
Testing only, with no remediation conflict of interest.
Approved & certified
ODH approved for school testing and NRPP certified, with Ohio license RT2019.
Personal service
Every test is planned, placed, retrieved, and reported by me — Jim Kurek — not a rotating crew.
A simple, well-documented process
Every building is different, so details are confirmed with you up front. Here's the general path from first call to final report.
- 01
Walk-through & planning
We talk through your buildings, the occupied spaces that touch the ground, and your calendar, then agree on a testing plan and timeline.
- 02
Device placement
Continuous radon monitors are placed in the appropriate rooms, with placement locations recorded and documented.
- 03
Testing period
Monitors run through the required test period. I coordinate with your facilities contact so devices stay undisturbed.
- 04
Retrieval & report
I retrieve the devices and deliver a clear written report with results by location, compared to the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L, plus plain next-step guidance.
- 05
Follow-up, if needed
If a room comes back elevated, I can help you understand the result and plan follow-up testing. Because I don't sell mitigation, the guidance stays objective.
